COMPETITIVE SKATE

 
 

Skaters who wish to challenge their figure skating skills and who show potential as competitive skaters can participate in the CompetitiveSkate program.

It’s more than just skating!

Skaters enrolled in CompetitiveSkate learn a variety of life skills as they progress up the competitive ladder. These include goal setting, focus, ability to deal with success/failure, time management and principles of fair play and sportsmanship. In addition to the life skill benefits, skaters in this program receive:

  • Access to provincial and national funding programs (as applicable).
  • The opportunity to be selected to Skate Canada’s National Team.
  • The opportunity to compete at Skate Canada Sectionals, Skate Canada Challenge, and/or the Canadian Figure Skating Championships.
  • Opportunity and potential to be selected to represent Canada internationally.
  • Access to sport science services.

 

Competitive Program Criteria 2026/2027

 

Pre Comp B

  1. Must have competed Star 2/3 in the previous competitive season.
  2. Must skate a minimum of three BSC sessions a week, plus one additional hour of either ice ticket or BSC sessions.
  3. Must be under the age of 11 as of July 1st 2026.
  4. Must be committed to skating a minimum of four weeks in the summer (three of the four weeks must be the full day program).
  5. Skaters hoping to move up to Pre Comp A must participate in 6:30am morning training.

Pre Comp A

  1. Must have competed Star 4 or higher, or a category equivalent to Star 4 or higher, in the previous competitive season.
  2. Must commit to a minimum of two Skate Ontario Competitions for the 2026/2027 season.
  3. Must be landing a consistent 1A and one double jump.
  4. Must skate a minimum of eight hours a week, including a minimum of three BSC sessions.
  5. Must be committed to skating a minimum of five weeks in the summer (four of the five weeks must be the full day program).
  6. Participation in 6:00am training is mandatory. Skaters who do not participate in a minimum of one day of morning training per week will not be invited back to the Pre Comp A program for the following season.
  7. Must be under the age of 12 as of July 1st 2026.

Competitive

  1. Must be competing in a category equivalent to pre juvenile or higher for the 2026/2027 season
  2. Must commit to a minimum of two Skate Ontario competitions for the 2026/2027 season.
  3. Must skate a minimum of three BSC sessions a week, plus an additional four hours of either ice ticket or BSC sessions.
  4. Must be committed to skating a minimum of five weeks in the summer (must be the full day program only).
  5. Must have competed a minimum of two seasons at Star 5 or higher.
All Skaters in the Competitive Program are required to attend Competitive group sessions.
6:00am morning training is Mandatory for Pre Comp A skaters. Skaters in Pre Comp B who do not participate in 6:30am morning training will not be eligible to move up to Pre Comp A.
Skaters who do not meet the criteria at the end of the season may lose their spot in the Competitive Program.
Skaters who meet some but not all the criteria, may be added to certain sessions with the permission of the Competitive Director.
